The Chequers Inn at Lamberhurst is a beautiful old Kentish riverside pub situated on the A21 in the village of Lamberhurst .
Steeped in history, The Chequers traces its origins back to 1137 when it was a manor house and has been a pub since 1414.
When used as a coaching post house there was stabling for 58 horses and it was last used as such in 1913 when the final coach and horses to pass through belonged to Pickford removals. The pub was in the Beech family for a hundred years.
The pub also boasts that Jane Austen herself was known to frequently visit the guest house-in search of inspiration for one of her many books no doubt!
